B.K.S. Iyengar’s practice, study of, and dedication to, Yoga was second to none in enthusiasm, intensity, consistency and quality, over more than 70 years.
Recognised in 2004 by Time Magazine in the top 100 most influential icons and awarded in 2014 by the Indian government the Padma Vibhushan, B.K.S. Iyengar is regarded world-wide as a true master in Yoga.
B.K.S Iyengar has influenced many thousands of people through his teaching of Yoga. Many of his students have gone to become teachers themselves inspiring thus more people.
His first book, Light on Yoga, first published in 1966, made Yoga truly available to all thanks to its detailed and simple instructions but also to the many photographs.
Every month hundreds of people from all over the world travel to his Yoga Institute in Pune, India. B.K.S Iyengar established the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in 1975, dedicating it to his wife Ramamani.
HIs daughter Gita who passed away in December 2018, taught at RIMYI regularly for many decades.
